The Story

Every year, the MTV EMA transforms a European metropolis into a huge party location. Thousands attend the live event and millions of fans follow the live broadcast behind their screens, when stars like Rihanna, Eminem or Lady Gaga accept their trophies at this huge media event.

Surrendering to the EMAzing Event fever, Crispy Content not only reported on the day of the event, but it had also already supplied the international client sites with content in the relevant countries’ languages in advance. Just like with the live support of the pop circus of the 2012 MTV EMA in Frankfurt, no highlight was left out at the intergalactic gathering of 2013 in Amsterdam. Ron Burgundy, aka Comedian Will Ferrell, on a city tour with Daft Punk before trying to pull Katy Perry live on camera and Miley Cyrus strolling across the red carpet half-naked.

Advance, live and subsequent reporting of the MTV EMA on various MTV country pages, as well as localisation of the international MTV EMA event website.

The MTV EMA reach millions of people all over the world. But is it possible to add to the buzz of that pop event? Yes! This is why Crispy Content was commissioned to steer more traffic onto the international MTV EMA website and to build a greater presence of the award show on various social media platforms. In order to achieve the objectives set by the client, we already produced and published several weeks before the event with localised advance reports with topics focused on best-dressed, hosts, and locations on the MTV country sites (DE, DK, CH, PL, FI, SE, BE, NL & NO). With integrated tune-in messages, the users were continuously reminded of the award show.

On the night of the event, the Crispy EMA production team switched right into the action from the office in Berlin via live stream. We set up a temporary coverage newsroom to supply users all over the world with up-to-date information live, such as spectacular performances, likeable faux pas – and, of course, the winners of the EMA awards.

With all the advance, live and subsequent reporting, efficient content management on the international country sites and the social media buzz that was generated as a result, millions of users were not only well informed, but they were really involved in the social networks. The MTV EMA came in at 5th place of all single events on Twitter and it was therefore one of the strongest special shows of the year in the social media charts.
